Veronique Branquinho

I had the chance to meet Veronique Branquinho and exchange a few words with her in Miami, at the Arts of Fashion Symposium last year. She was then celebrating 10 years of activity, and of course a little advertising didn’t do any harm, since she was the guest editor for #6 of A Magazine.

The whole VB team consists in 11 people, but who can manage to take “Veronique Branquinho” as a brand name- towards success. Each collection she presents has an eye for detail, but the one that i loved most was the autumn-winter 07-08 season, it had a certain long silhouette and presented a mysterious yet feminine and soft character. (see collection here)

Next season’s collection- spring summer 09- has a really fresh twist to it. It apparently looks simple, but the prints add some depth, and its completed by the little details and interesting cuts that some garments have, even if monochrome.

Martin Margiela exhibition in Antwerp

Maison Martin Margiela – Autumn-Winter 2002-2003

Hey guys, sorry for not writting for such a long time-I had a break- and  seems like things can change very quick and in a very twisted and unexpected  way.  I always thought if you choose to do something in life, you should at least learn how to do it perfectly. So here I am now, continuing my studies at the famous Antwerp fashion department from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. It has been a summer full of research and self :) I spent a lot of time with myself and realized so many things were going wrong.. So I decided to try and change it. I didnt really feel I was exploring and exploiting enough.. on the contrary..there were some people who put boundaries to my way of working and that;s just not acceptable. I tried to gather myself this summer and refind the things that I was close to, put them in a portfolio and try my luck in Antwerp.

So here I am now, trying to make a living out of it!

I’d love to share with you all my fashion experiences here in Belgium…It’s a place full of surprise and interesting people.

The first thing I’d like to mention is the Martin Margiela exhibition at Momu (The Mode Museum which is part of the Modenatie building, along with the fashion department of the Royal Academy ) , which I havent seen yet- but its on my to do  list for this week. The exhibition will be available until the 8th of February..

I’ll keep you posted and make a review after I’ve seen it.

Puma + Chalayan = LOVE

I got this pretty cool colorful Puma T-shirt from my brother- i dont usually buy puma stuff, so i was quite surprised by this funny red label with all the indications :) ). Of course- i was lucky that the t-shirt fits perfectly- and so I enjoyed reading it. But if it didnt? i would have probably hated all that stuff written on it :) )- I scaned it for you- enjoy :)

And talking about Puma.. Recently our fav designer- Hussein Chalayan has been named creative director for Puma. Apparently they want to reinvent the label- bringing a new touch to the sports vision of this brand. And really I think they will probably manage to stand out from all the sport label crowd- thanks to the innovative ideas of the avant-garde designer. Most probably I’ll watch their evolution- all this made me really curious :)

The main point of this collaboration is Chalayan’s afinities with technology, which he describes as the only thing in the world that can create something new”. Jochen Zeitz the chief executive from Puma thinks that Puma is the kind of brand that brings fashion and lifestyle into the sports world but “what is missing is how people dress, and in that lies a tremendous energy we want to capitalize on”.

Hmm.. well.. i’ll have to say this combination must have a pretty interesting result. Waiting for it :)

In the meantime- you might wanna read some articles about this issue here, here and here and you can check out the “master’s” latest collection here.

Blogroll- a few tips

All you fashion addicts all over the world, let me tell you about a few cool sites you should be aware of. That is, if you’re a student or professional from the creative field who needs to promote his/her work. First there is iqons.com, a fashion pop culture networking site. It’s a fashion community highlighting creative talent. Pop culture through the eyes of fashion. Featured “iqons”: Comme des Garcons, Wendy&Jim, Ruben&Isabel Toledo etc. Recently the “IQONS Magazine” has been launched. It’s amazing to read it- you can even go through it like through a real magazine. You can scan it here. You’ll be amazed of the effect and quality- the pages rustle ;)

You should definitely take a look at feederro.ning.com. This is a filtered social network, for ad, arh, fashion & art people. Pretty nifty. Its an initiative of feeder.ro. (Thanks Iancu for the tip.)

Other keypoints to promote your work are :
—>www.portfolios.com – for all creative fields

—>www.goportfolio.com – mainly for photographers, models, make-up artists and stylists.

—>www.coroflot.com – portfolios & jobs for creative work

–>www.behance.net – creative portfolios, projects and collaborations- (they are quite restrictive- you need an invitation to be able to sign up, but it’s worth it)

British..

I always loved british style- this red plaided maxi bag is fit for long days and lots of things to carry , especially if you have to take your laptop with you. Lately i’ve been really keen on maxi bags- although some say they are out of fashion- for me they’re damn useful – and fun :)

After months of hope and insistence..we (myself and my fellow colleague analya) received the 8 outfits of our knitwear collection that we made in collaboration with Romexport.
