Martin Margiela exhibition in Antwerp

Maison Martin Margiela – Autumn-Winter 2002-2003
Hey guys, sorry for not writting for such a long time-I had a break- and seems like things can change very quick and in a very twisted and unexpected way. I always thought if you choose to do something in life, you should at least learn how to do it perfectly. So here I am now, continuing my studies at the famous Antwerp fashion department from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. It has been a summer full of research and self
I spent a lot of time with myself and realized so many things were going wrong.. So I decided to try and change it. I didnt really feel I was exploring and exploiting enough.. on the contrary..there were some people who put boundaries to my way of working and that;s just not acceptable. I tried to gather myself this summer and refind the things that I was close to, put them in a portfolio and try my luck in Antwerp.
So here I am now, trying to make a living out of it!
I’d love to share with you all my fashion experiences here in Belgium…It’s a place full of surprise and interesting people.
The first thing I’d like to mention is the Martin Margiela exhibition at Momu (The Mode Museum which is part of the Modenatie building, along with the fashion department of the Royal Academy ) , which I havent seen yet- but its on my to do list for this week. The exhibition will be available until the 8th of February..
I’ll keep you posted and make a review after I’ve seen it.

Gareth Pugh summer 08

I love Gareth Pugh! This guy has something dark in his creation, but at the same time some mystery is involved in the story… He manages to give a great show with only 10-12 outfits. But the effect is awesome. Some outerspace athmosphere combined with some gothic darkness. The fabrics and textures are really beautiful and the characters he creates are definately coming from the future. Gareth is definately a showman.

Arts of Fashion International Symposium & Competition 2007
Organized by the Arts of Fashion Foundation, the annual symposium and contest was held this year in Miami-Florida. I had the chance of a great experience – meeting Hermann Fankhauser from Wendy&Jim, who coordinated the FlatFashAttitude MasterClass. He suggested a new approach for creating a garment, a new way of thinking the product.
The challenge was to start from a flat piece- decide on a dress design- and then work on the details in such a manner that even if I will end up having volumes and different shapes on my dress- when I lay it on the table- it should open as a flat piece.
There are lots of things romanian young designers don’t keep in mind. (And it could be that the fashion teachers have the fault for that). The relaxing athmosphere and detached state of mind when creating a design. And I will never forget what Hermann told us at one point : “If you fail, you fail-it’s not a problem. You now have the chance to experience a different approach, try new things. Fashion is about that.”
